6-month contract to hire

Hybrid work arrangement – Evansville, IN

We are seeking a Mainframe COBOL Engineer to assist our direct client located in Evansville, IN. This is a 6-month contract-to-hire position.  Sponsorship is available if offered employment. This is a hybrid work arrangement with remote and onsite work in Evansville, IN.  This position will be in a fast-paced environment working with batch and real-time systems and coordinating changes with other IT development teams.   

Responsibilities

• Scope and design solutions from technical requirements and overall business need. 
• Deliver QA and testing support as needed and troubleshoot problems and implement reliable change.
• Participate in and conduct development activities with offshore resources.
• Conduct technical walkthroughs with all stakeholders.
• Support system testing activities and resolve any technical issues.
• Provide emergency bug fixes to production issues and resolve client research requests.
• Provide production support by fixing batch process abnormal ends within strict SLAs.
• Handle change requests for implementing changes and owning them until closure.
• Meet with project managers to provide daily or weekly project statuses.

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
• 6 - 9 years of software development engineering experience.
• Working knowledge in an IBM Mainframe environment.
• Proficient with COBOL, JCL, VSAM, DB2, and working with IBM Mainframe zOS toolsets.
• Experience in technical design writing and documentation.
• Proficient with usage of MS Office Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint.
• Ability to problem solve, code, test, and deploy application fixes in a fast-paced SLA driven environment.
• Code and test high priority and critical changes utilizing COBOL, JCL, DB2, and VSAM.
